He saw an opportunity to learn in America, then transport goods and ideas to invest in his home island of Sao Nicolau via the Schooner Ernestina and other vessels. Change has brought us to a world of advanced resources which allow us to bridge gaps between continents in ways my grandfather couldn’t fathom. These resources also have the potential to impact many more people than my grandfather was able to in his early endeavors. What remains constant, however, is the wealth of opportunity that Cape Verde has to offer. The Hello Cabo Verde builds from our ancestors’ visions. This is not a new concept, as both my grandfather’s story and the long-standing history of Cape Verdeans in the New Bedford area prove.
